What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help us provide a better experience and understand how our site is used, ensuring we can continue to refine our tools for all Australian users.

Essential

Required for the site to function correctly across all devices. These do not store personal information or track your browsing habits outside of this application.

This also covers the figures you enter into a calculator. Some calculators remember them in your browser’s local storage so they are still there next time you visit. They stay on your device, they are never sent to us, they expire after 90 days, and each calculator that does this shows a link to clear them. If you decline below, nothing is saved.

The Invoice and Quote Maker can remember your own business details (name, ABN, payment details you type) in your browser so the next invoice is quicker. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. The Tax Jar Tracker keeps its entries the same way.

If you sign in to a free AusCalc account, one necessary item in your browser’s local storage keeps you signed in on that device. It is not used for tracking or ads, and signing out removes it. If you use Continue with Google, Google may set its own sign-in cookies on its sign-in window.

If you bought the Tax Toolkit (no longer sold), one necessary secure cookie links your browser to your order so you can download it. It holds no card details.

Performance

These help us measure traffic patterns and user flow. We use this anonymised data to identify which calculators are most popular and where users encounter friction.

Advertising Cookies (Google AdSense)

AusCalc displays ads via Google AdSense to fund ongoing development and keep all tools free. Google uses cookies to serve personalised ads based on your browsing activity. You can opt out at any time via Google Ad Settings.

Managing Cookies

Most modern web browsers allow you to block or delete cookies within your security settings. Note that disabling all cookies may impact the performance of certain site features or preferences.
