Since 1 July 2026, employers must pay super with each pay run. Contributions have to reach the fund within seven business days of payday.

Verified 21 September 2026 against the ATO's own tax rates for Australian residents page. Several other calculators currently publish last year's 16c second-bracket rate as current for 2026-27 - check the "last updated" date on any source before trusting it.
What changed from 2025-26
The second bracket - $18,200 to $45,000 - drops from 16c to 15c per dollar from 1 July 2026, legislated under the Treasury Laws Amendment (Cost of Living Tax Cuts) Act 2024. Every other bracket edge and every rate above it is unchanged. At exactly $45,000 of taxable income, tax before LITO falls from $4,288 (2025-26) to $4,020 (2026-27) - a $268 saving that carries through to every higher income as well, since the brackets above it start from that lower base.
Medicare levy and LITO
Most residents pay a further 2% Medicare levy on top of the brackets above, on their full taxable income (with a reduction or exemption for low incomes). Separately, the Low Income Tax Offset reduces the tax bill by up to $700 for anyone with taxable income up to $37,500, phasing out to nil at $66,667. Neither is a bracket - both apply after the table above, which is exactly what the calculators below do automatically.
Questions about the brackets
What are the Australian tax brackets for 2026-27?
For 2026-27, Australian resident individuals pay nil tax up to $18,200, then 15c per dollar to $45,000, 30c per dollar to $135,000, 37c per dollar to $190,000, and 45c per dollar above that. These are marginal rates - only the income inside each band is taxed at that band's rate, and the Medicare levy is separate.
Did the tax brackets change for 2026-27?
Yes. The second bracket dropped from 16c to 15c per dollar from 1 July 2026, under the Treasury Laws Amendment (Cost of Living Tax Cuts) Act 2024. Every other bracket edge and rate is unchanged from 2025-26. The cut is worth up to $268 a year to anyone earning above $45,000.
Is the tax-free threshold the same for everyone?
The $18,200 tax-free threshold applies to Australian resident individuals who claim it from one employer via their TFN declaration. It has not changed in either the 2025-26 or 2026-27 year. Foreign and working-holiday-maker rates are different and are not modelled by this page.
Do these brackets include the Medicare levy?
No. The brackets above are income tax only. Most residents also pay a Medicare levy of 2% of taxable income on top, with a reduction or exemption for low incomes. Use the sole trader or PAYG calculator to see income tax and the Medicare levy combined for a specific income.
What is the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO)?
LITO is a separate, non-refundable offset that reduces tax payable after it is calculated from the brackets above - it is not a bracket itself. It is worth up to $700 for taxable income up to $37,500, reduces 5c per dollar to $45,000, then 1.5c per dollar until it reaches nil at $66,667. Every AusCalc calculator that outputs a tax figure already applies it automatically.
